Salem SLP-2 was released 1957 and reissued on Stepheny MF4005 in 1958 with a different cover. Drums played by Johnny Whited were overdubbed for the issue on Stepheny – and the liner notes adapted accordingly, but without mentioning the overdubbing. We do not know if this was Pate's idea or if the Stepheny people decided that drums are needed. They do not add much, nor are they disturbing.

The matrix numbers of the Salem release are H8OP-0008/9, while the Stepheny issue carries J70P-5286/7. Regardless of the title the LP does not sound like a live recording. P&S 008 is a spanish CD issue reverting to the original Salem Cover, but keeping the overdubbed drums from the Stepheny issue. According to Tom Lord's Jazz discography, P&S 008 has January 1957 as the recording date, but according to the sleeve of Salem SLP-2, thats when Frank Holzfeind, owner of the Blue Note Club, wrote the liner notes.
